Happy Psychedelic Earth Day everyone!
Could psychedelics bring about the social healing and political disruption we need in the face of a planetary emergency? We live in a time when predatory economics and the Western world view have largely failed us, bringing on the Sixth Mass Extinction and climate collapse. Leonie explores how indigenous communities are the keepers of an ancient knowledge system that could shift our modern world-view, and put us back in symbiosis with nature.
Leonie Joubert is an award-winning South African science writer and author of more than ten books. She uses storytelling to grapple with today’s big global challenges: climate and ecosystem collapse, and the political-economy driving this; why the city food system leaves many of us hungry, heavy, and sick; and how to design more friendly, fair, and healthy city-scapes. Her latest audio-book, The Psychonauts, investigates the potential of psychedelic-assisted therapy for treating certain mental health conditions, but with a distinctly South African flavour.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
